| Description: | Paint a Lace Runner using the basic pixel paintbrush. This tutorial is best working at a Zoom of 800% or more. | |
As you work, use your mouse to drag this stickpin
along with you to mark your place.
Open a 250w x 65h new image. Click on the paintbrush tool, and use the basic pixel settings below:

Paint a straight line on the page it doesn't have to be very long just a short horizontal line nor does it have to be white any color will do. Click out of Paint as Object and click the Transform Tool [Q] Resize.

Wait a minute you say, I hear you!! Never Resize a Pixel image.....Right!! But you can resize Horizontal OR Vertical Lines. But not both merged together, only as a seperate image. Therefore, with your pixel line active, Unlock the pad lock at the top and type in 251 in the width leaving the height at 1.
Click your paintbrush tool again and set the spacing in the Tool Settings – brush Options to 200.

Choose the Straight Lines, click back into Paint as Object, and drag your line across the page as long as the solid line. Watch that your line is straight across. Sorry we cannot use the resize tool again on this it does not work. Duplicate or Copy and Paste your line and position under the first leaving a 1 pixel space between.
Paint a diagonal line down 8 pixels squares. Duplicate Flip Horizontally and place on the other side making a V shape, Merge as a single object. Starting at the top continue with your pixel squares skipping a space between and filling in the V shape also keeping the pixel squares in line with the top set. Making the squares meet at times give it the look of lace patches. Put this under the set of lines you made earlier and group.

Paint 8 pixels diagonally downward and on the 8th one paint 3 pixels down making a straight line downward. Then continue with 5 more diagonal lines. Click out of mode duplicate Flip Horizontally and place on the other side. Merge as a single object. Align with your previous shape and lines and fill in keeping the squares aligned with the previous ones. Make any type of shape you would like in the lower part. You can leave it open or make a filled in shape whatever your desire. Group all pieces together.

Click on the lace shapes you've just completed and duplicate. Paste them next to the previous ones aligning with the top lines.

For the middle section of the lace paint 3 diagonal squares on the 3rd paint one under and then back to 3 diagonal. Duplicate Flip Horizontally and Merge as a Single Object. Duplicate and put two together as shown below.

Fill the middle area as previously done. Just experiment with different designs that you might be able to do or just fill in as below.

Starting with the largest piece we did for line 5, duplicate this one and place next to our small middle pieces. Continue to copy and past till you reach the end.

For the end pieces I just painted pixel squares here and there but no more than 7 pixel squares across and no more than 18 down at the longest point from the very top. Duplicate Flip Horizontally and align on the other side of the lace.
Your lace is now complete. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial. Thank You.
