Table Top Chruch Clock

Description: Make a table top clock in the shape of a church building.(This tutorial was done with Photoimpact 8.0 but can be done in any version with a good working knowledge of the tools)

As you work, use your mouse to drag this stickpin along with you to mark your place.


Instructions

Church Roof and Front

Open a new image around W:500 x H:500 or larger if you prefer with a light color background like #F3F5F8. Draw a 2D rectangle W:147 x H:100 color #4A4A4A R:74 G:74 B:74 or any color you prefer for the roof. Click on the Perspective Tool and widen the bottom to W:194.

Draw 2 long 3D white rectangle W:8 x H:188 Border 2 Depth 30 and put on each side of the roof.

Click on the Outline Drawing Tool Shape Diamond Mode 3D Custom click on Material Bevel 1st one on left, and Border 3 Depth 30 same color as roof and draw a shape W:185 x H:136. Right click Convert Object Type From Text/Path to Image. Using the eraser size 20 Shape Square soft edge 0. Zoom in if needed and click right under where the diamond starts down and erase the bottom part and place as shown below.

Draw a 2D white rectangle W:183 x H:81. Align the bottom with the bottom of the roof. Click on the Editing tool then click on the plus (+) and add an edit point to the middle at the point of the triangle then click the minus (-) sign and remove the upper left and right points. Fill this with the wood preset and send to back, send the roof to back so the wood triangle is to the front but behind the outline overhang. Click on both shapes you just made and group.

Draw a rectangle W:183 x H:96 with the same wood preset, send it to the back and align right under the bottom of the triangle. Duplicate this piece and put under the above one coving the front of the building. This keeps the wood at an even size, not to big or small. Draw a 3D rectangle W:192 x H:6 Border 2 Depth 30 and place it on the bottom sending this piece to the back and then click on the piece right above this one and send to back. The front of your building should now look like the picture below:

The Steeple

Draw a 2D rectangle W:67 x H:60 with the same white horizontal wood setting. Duplicate this piece and put together one on top of the other, align left group and put on top of the roof right above the point and bring the triangle point to the front. Draw a white 3D rectangle W:69 x H:14 Border 2 Depth 16. Right click Convert Object Type from Text/Path to Image and click the brightness plus (+) sign on the left tool bar once or twice to make brighter.

Draw a 3D white rectangle W:5 x H:107 Border 2 Depth 30. Duplicate and place on each side align bottom all three. Ungroup the two middle pieces and bring the top piece down to the top of the two side rectangles, click on all 5 pieces and group. Your roof should now look like the picture below.

Click on the path Drawing Tool and click on the roof to set roof color. Under Shape Custom Shapes click A08. Draw a shape and using the Resize tool make the shape W:74 x H:60. Duplicate this piece and click on the Editing button on the toolbar to go into Path Edit Mode. Click on the Edit point minus (-) sign and delete the center point from each side of the triangle. Click out of edit and move the triangle next to the duplicate, click back into edit mode and move the three points to the position shown below. Click out of edit mode Duplicate and Flip Horizontally and put this piece on the other side. Go back into the edit mode if needed to adjust. Group the three pieces together and move to the side. For the cross on top I just drew two 3D rectangles W:2 x H:37 and put them together.

  

The Window

Click on the 5 piece steeple tower you completed previously ungroup and click on the top square. Click the edit button to go into the Path Edit Mode. Selected Custom Shape Arch 3 and draw a Continue Draw shape W:27 x H:30 click your Path Drawing Tool button and click on the Path Edit Tool and on both the arch and square align center both. Click out of edit mode. Move the small middle rectangle down some for this next part. Click on the Outline Custom Shape Tool Arch make your settings 3D Round Border 2 Dept 30, W:24 x H:35 draw a frame for the window and position over the opening. Group the rectangle with the window outline and duplicate. Resize to W:52 x H:47 and send it the back and align off center to the front window giving it a 3D look. You can also place the roof and cross on top now as illustrated below.

For the bell I just used the bell from the Image Library “Bells” and erased the bell and ribbon on the right side then used the Transform Tool and Rotate 25 degree counterclockwise and resize to W:57 x H:51. Send the bell to the back and click on the back wall and send to the back to put the bell between the two walls showing in the window.

The Side Rooms

Click on your roof to reset the color of the roof. Draw a 2D rectangle W:41 x H:14. Click on the Transform Tool Slant and slide the right side up to H:60. Now click back on one of the front rectangles to reset you white panel wood and draw a 2D rectangle W:31 x H:62. Duplicate this piece and align all three pieces down the side sending them to the back with the overhang in front of the rectangle. Now click on the top rectangle and go into edit mode. Bring the top left point down to the middle of the overhang keeping the outside line straight. Group the three pieces together.

   

Draw a rectangle 3D round white Border 2 Depth 30 W:5 x H:92 and put on the outside of the wall just under the overhang. Send to the back and align with the side of the wall.

Draw another rectangle 3D round white Border 3 Depth 30 W:45 x H:9 and place it on the bottom of the wall. Bring the right side long rectangle to the front.

Click on the Path Drawing Tool and select Custom Shape Arch 3. Draw a 2D shape any color W:14 x H:33. Next select the Outline Custom Shape Arch 3D Custom same Bevel as steeple window, color White Border 2 Depth 30 and draw a shape W:14 x H:33.

Click back on your solid arch and use any one of the Material Gallery glass preset you like I used L06 for this one. Click and group both pieces resize to W:22 x H:53. Holding down the Ctrl key click on all 7 pieces group and duplicate. Flip Horizontally and place on the other side of the building. Select both sides align bottom and send to the back.

The Archway and Doors

Using the Outline rectangle 3D Custom Border 5 Depth 30 draw a shape W:77 x H:132. Go into the Edit mode and click on the Edit point plus (+) and insert a point on the top line in the middle and one on each side just a little ways down from the top. Click on the minus (-) sign and delete the left and right upper points. As illustrated below.

  

Click out of the edit mode and resize to W:76 x H:126 and place in the middle of the building. Draw a horizontal 3D rectangle Border 2 Depth 30 W:74 x H:4 and place it across the top where the arch starts down bring frame to the front. Click on the Path Drawing Tool and select Diamond and draw a 2D shape W:80 x H:80. Click on the editing tool and click the minus (-) sign and delete the bottom point leaving a triangle shape.

Click out of edit and put this shape at the top of the arch and bring the arch and horizontal rectangle to the front resize to W:78 x H:38 to fit area. Fill with your choice of stained glass preset. Click on all three and group.

Draw a rectangle W:36 x H:86 3D round Border 2 Depth 30 color Deep Red #AF1515 R:175 G:21 B:21. Duplicate and place side by side inside the arch bring arch to the front.

Draw another rectangle 3D round Border 3 Depth -30, W:23 x H:60. Put on door and arrange close to the top. Duplicate and reduce the height to H:15 put under the one you just made. Click on both and align left Merge as a Single Object, then duplicate and move that piece to the other door. Click on the Flip Horizontally button so the shadow will be on the outside for both doors.

Draw a rectangle 3D round Border 99 Depth 30, W:3 x H:19 and fill with Metallic Copper 8 from the Attribute Gallery. Duplicate put on the other door and align both.

The Outside Light
(You will need to zoom to around 300% or more for this part.)

Open the EasyPalette and click on Material Attribute Gallery Metallic and click the top Remove Material button to reset your colors. Click on the Path Drawing Tool and select Custom shape Arch 2. Reset the Borders and Depth to Max 99 - 30 check Smooth Spine and draw a shape W:8 x H:13. Open the Material Attribute Gallery again and select Plastic Black. Duplicate and Flip Vertically, bring the duplicated piece down under the top one align Left and using the arrow key keep pushing the bottom piece down until you have a height when you click on both pieces of H:46 then group both pieces.

Again reset the borders by clicking on Reset in Material Gallery Plastic. Select the rounded rectangle 3D color yellow and draw a shape W:7 x H:25. Send this shape to the back and align in the middle of the two arches. Group together and click on the Line and Arrow Tool set outline to Hairline Straight Line black. Draw a straight line on the left side from top to bottom of the white part. Duplicate and using the arrow keys move to the middle duplicate again and move to the right side. Select all pieces and merge as a single object. Duplicate and place on the other side of the door. Select both and Align Top. The front of your church should now look like this.

The Front Step

Open the Path Drawing Tool Custom Shape and select the Half Moon Shape. Draw a shape and size to W:84 x H:27 Borders 1 Depth 6. Flip Vertically, Click on the Transform Tool Perspective pull the bottom area apart to a width of W:152. Fill this with any Realistic, brick or stone you wish.

Keeping the same setting again go to the Path Drawing Tool Custom Shapes and select Plaque 5. Draw a shape and resize to W:101 x H:28 Flip Vertically and arrange in front of the previous shape. Right click Convert Object Type From Text/Path to Image and click on the minus (-) sign next to the brightness button on the left to darken if needed. Click both the top half moon and plaque shape and arrange in front of the door at the bottom.

     

Reset Borders 99 Depth 30. Draw a 3D Trim color white rounded rectangle W:25 x H:44. Click on the right top and using the Transform Slant Tool push up to a height of H:59. Now click on Rotate and flip and rotate left 90 degrees. Right click Convert Object Type Reset Text / Path Object. Then rotate 90 degrees to the right and reset Border 13 Depth 20.

Draw a rectangle 3D Black Border 1 Depth 1 W:25 x H:8. Click on the Transform Slant Tool select the top right and slant upward to H:25. Align the two pieces at the top, and make the long strip even at the top left point of the lower one. With the top black strip still selected, Go into the edit mode zoom in and pull the top left notch down till you have it looking straight with the top lower part. Click on the bottom line and convert to curve. Pull the top left notch down even with the bottom wall and resize to W:37 x H:22. Place on top of the 3D Trim object and bring to the front. Select both pieces and merge. Duplicate the merged piece and place on the other side of the step. Flip Horizontally and bring the step to the front and arrange in front of the doors.

The Clock

Using the clock supplied or one of your own place it close to the top of the front of the building. You are finished and your completed Church Clock should look like below.
